What does it mean to be blessed?
"If material things are what you're talking about when you say "I'm blessed", you have no idea what a blessing is."I came across this quote earlier today, and I put some thought into the little things around me that make me feel blessed. It's always good to take some time to appreciate the little things around us that we take for granted every day. I'm blessed to be surrounded by lovely people who genuinely care, I'm blessed to have a roof over my head and food on the table, I'm blessed to still be alive and breathing. It really does make you think, what's it like for the people out there who are not as privileged as we are?
I also came across this series of photos called "If the world were a village of 100 people"; a very creative illustration that shows just how privileged we are, and how much we take the simple things for granted. For example:
If the world were a village of 100 people
FOOD:
15 overweight
30 always have enough to eat
20 undernourished
1 dying of starvation
50 don't have reliable sources of food and hungry some/all time
EDUCATION:
1 has college education
99 haven't
COMPUTERS:
7 have computers
93 haven't

As global citizens, it's not enough to just know about it and think "Oh, I feel so sorry,". As global citizens, it is our responsibility to take action and contribute: after all, we have the power to make a change.
This thought crossed my mind, and it really sent me thinking:
"What can I do to make a change?"Each of us holds a unique role in our society to ignite that spark. It doesn't matter how young you are, or how much influence you have, as Malala Yousafzai once said:
"When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful."What is your role, and how do you think you can contribute to society? Leave your answers in the comments below!
As a youth in society, I believe I'm blessed with the energy and time to make better of the things I can get my hands on. Beginning from the simplest things such as helping the less fortunate in my community, cleaning up my area etc. From then on will I be knowledgeable enough to take over the authoritarian roles concerning these matters and be able to update policies that are previously irrelevant, for example.
ReplyDeleteAs the core, I think that it's vital for my brothers and sisters to yes, voice out their opinions in this growing world. However, it must surely encapsulate ideas sprouted by knowledge, instead of just mere dissatisfaction fueled by ignorance.
