Hello friends: guys, gals and non-binary pals! My name is Mandalyn Tan. My friends call me Mandy, Mandy (after my favourite character in the HBO series Euphoria) ... and the list goes on.
Three interesting facts about me:
1) My current reading speed is 1064 wpm (I was trained to speed read as a kid)
2) I once snuck home 4 baby chicks, hid and took care of them for a week before my
mom found out (my mom had the same problem when I brought back a chicken, 4
kittens, a stray puppy etc. in the following years)
3) I lived in 5 different countries growing up.
I'd say that living abroad was what defined my personality the most — I became an amalgamation of different cultures, practices and manners. I'm multifaceted, multidimensional and complex — and refuse to be categorized by stereotypes.
If you meet me in real life, don't hesitate to say hi! I won't bite, most of the time. Unless you want me to.

Besides blogging or writing, I can usually be found spending time with my friends, watching Netflix, scrolling on ClassPass, running (away from my problems), travelling or plotting world domination. I enjoy the indulgence that good food and wine brings, and my sweet tooth has me constantly on the hunt for the best desserts. I do maintain balance of course; after all, I'm the self-proclaimed record holder for horizontal running and bed-minton.
I also spend a lot of my time travelling: I go wherever the wind takes me! (or wherever flight tickets are cheapest) I am fortunate enough to have met some of the most wonderful people on my travels, some of whom I have shared stories and am constantly inspired by. Travelling, to me, is always an opportunity to learn something new: be it a language, a skill, or a new art form: each of these elements broadens our understanding of the world and the people outside our immediate circle, but what fascinates me most is how culture shapes the way we think and act. This has ultimately led me to pursue a minor in Sociology and Political Sciences: which I believe will help me deepen my understanding in my areas of interest.
My interests include art gallery-hopping, food hunting, lurking in dark corners, online shopping (I’m an expert!) and reading.
Why 'littlemissdiplomacy'?
It started off as a joke during a Model United Nations Conference. The theme was "putting the D back in Diplomacy", and on social night I tweeted something along the lines of: "My name is Diplomacy. You know what to do." The MUN-ers started calling me "Little Miss Diplomacy" after that. It stuck around!

After some thought, I adopted the moniker and decided that it was the name for me. Little Miss Diplomacy is a fun play on the 'little miss' caricatures but it exudes power, declaring proudly that even "little misses" can participate in areas as significant as diplomacy and world peace. It resonated very closely with my personality: feminine yet fiery. And who knows? I might just end up doing something related to diplomacy in the future.
Why Blog?
Writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. My father bought me my very first laptop (I still keep it!) when I was 5 years old, and ever since, I've started crafting stories of my own and drawing polar bears on Paint. I've also always dreamed of writing my own book. I remember writing my very first short story when I was 8 years old. My mother encouraged me to start a blog to showcase my writings and document my thoughts (I've always had the irrational fear that Microsoft Word would run out of paper), and so I did.

I believe that language has the power to change the way we think, act and feel. I also believe very strongly in using our freedom of speech, as words hold power over our lives. Writing a blog not only gives me an opportunity to share my ideas and beliefs, but it is also a platform where readers can comment and give suggestions. Fruitful discussion and learning stem from differing opinions, and I wish to be able to facilitate that discussion, but more importantly, learn from others. I acknowledge that I am not the most informed or "woke" person, but I look forward to expanding my horizons and learning through discussion. Do not hesitate to voice out in the comments box, but please remember to be civil!
